Blinken Lauds the Nation for Welcoming Afghans

Washington, 17 September 2021 (TDI): US State Secretary Antony J. Blinken expressed his contentment over the generosity of the American citizens in welcoming Afghan families arriving in the United States lately. The US is collaborating with the community effort, “Welcome.US” to mobilize support for Afghan families across all sectors.

Secretary Blinken reiterated his support towards the Afghan families on Thursday, who are arriving in the U.S. to build their new lives. Following the Taliban takeover in Kabul, the United States has evacuated thousands of Afghans who have started arriving in the States. The majority of families are the Afghans who helped American diplomatic or military agencies in Kabul and are at high risk of persecution by the Taliban. Others include US citizens living in Afghanistan, people seeking Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) status, and the ones who qualify for ‘humanitarian parolee’ status, which is usually done under a military evacuation.
