Blasts Rock Kabul as Pak-Afghan Border Clashes Escalate

Kabul, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Kabul, Jalalabad

Kabul (TDI): Multiple explosions and gunfire were reported across Kabul on Tuesday as Afghan and Pakistani forces continued clashes along their shared border.

Anti-aircraft fire echoed through the capital while Afghanistan’s defense ministry confirmed that fighting with Pakistani troops was ongoing, according to AFP.

In Jalalabad, located between Kabul and the border, heavy weapons fire and explosions were also reported. Residents near the Torkham border crossing, roughly 50 kilometers from Jalalabad, said the days-long confrontation was continuing.

The escalation follows clashes that began on Thursday after Afghanistan launched a border offensive in response to Pakistani air strikes.

Pakistan maintains its February strikes targeted terrorist groups, accusing Afghanistan of failing to act against militants carrying out attacks on Pakistani soil, a claim rejected by the Taliban government.

The clashes have affected multiple provinces, including southern Kandahar and neighbouring Zabul, according to provincial authorities.

Officials say the violence marks the worst border confrontation since October, when more than 70 people were killed on both sides. Land crossings between the two countries remain largely closed as tensions continue.
