Biden hints at weapon supplies to Ukraine

Washington, September 11, 2024 (TDI): The goals of the visit to Ukraine by US Secretary of State Blink’s is to hear directly from the Ukrainian leadership about their objectives.

This was explained by President Joe Biden saying the visit also aims to know what can be done to support their (the government in Ukraine) needs.

BBC’s report said that by saying so the President hinted at Washington lifting restrictions on Ukraine using US long-range missiles against Russia.

Biden’s remarks come when US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and his UK counterpart, Foreign Secretary David Lammy, were  preparing to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv.

Blinken and Lammy planned to visit Ukraine after talks in London, they would discuss the problems faced by the Ukrainian government in their meeting with the officials there.

If granted, it would fulfil repeated requests by Ukraine to loosen the limits on US-supplied weapons, which officials have said has left them fighting against Russia’s full-scale invasion with their hands tied, BBC reported.

Russia has not yet reacted over the statement, but earlier President Vladimir Putin has said such action could lead to extremely serious problems.

Blinken’s UK Visit and Blames Iran

During his visit to the UK, Blinken accused Iran of supplying short-range ballistic missiles to Russia, saying they could be deployed against Ukrainians within weeks.

While, Lammy described Iran’s move as “a significant and dangerous escalation”.

They feared that the missiles are likely to boost Russia’s arsenal, and could further endanger Ukrainian cities close to Russia’s borders and also areas it already controls at the same time as it deploys its longer-range missiles deeper into Ukrainian territory.

However, Iran has repeatedly denied the accusations of supplying self-guided weapons to Russia.

The US along with its western allies considers Russia attack on the territory of Ukraine as aggression and serious threat to Europe and beyond.
