ISLAMABAD, September 11, 2024 (TDI): Pakistan is ranked among the top countries facing the highest levels of both conflict exposure and disaster risk, according to the World Risk Index 2024 report released recently.
In the latest rankings, Pakistan is positioned third in terms of conflict exposure, just behind Colombia and Brazil.
This marks a shift from last year when Pakistan was pushed out of the top 10 by Russia, and it now finds itself above China in this year’s list.

The World Risk Index 2024, published by Germany’s Ruhr University Bochum’s Institute for International Law of Peace and Armed Conflict (IFHV), focuses on the growing complexity of global crises.
The report highlights how extreme weather events, ongoing conflicts, and pandemics are becoming more intertwined, compounding their impacts.
The report notes that the highest risk areas are currently in the Americas and Asia, though it predicts that in the long term, these risk hotspots may shift to countries that are highly vulnerable to climate change.
