Minsk, 18 October 2022 (TDI): The Ambassador of Pakistan to Belarus, Sajjad Haider Khan, held a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Vladimir Makei, today.

The Ambassador and the Foreign Minister discussed the matters on the agenda of Pakistan-Belarus relations.

They identified specific steps to implement the agreements reached between the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, and Belarusian President, Aleksandr Lukashenko, at the meetings on the sidelines of September’s Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit and the Confidence Building Measures in Asia Summit held in Astana on 13th of October.

During the meeting on the sidelines of the SCO summit, the Prime Minister had expressed his commitment to increasing the momentum of bilateral collaboration in all fields, including political, trade, investment, and economic cooperation between Pakistan and Belarus.

Furthermore, the two sides had also agreed to hold the next session of the Pakistan-Belarus Joint Economic Commission (JEC) at the earliest, which could prove instrumental in enhancing bilateral trade and cooperation in diverse areas.

In addition, Prime Minister Sharif had accepted the invitation by President Lukashenko to visit Belarus and extended an invitation to the President of Belarus to visit Pakistan.

During their meeting on the sidelines of the 6th CICA Summit, the two countries’ leaders had discussed regional and international issues of mutual interest, rehabilitation of people affected by floods in Pakistan, the Pak-Belarus Joint Economic Commission, and the desire to promote peace and stability.

Pakistan-Belarus relations 

On February 3, 1994, the Republic of Belarus and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan established diplomatic relations. The two countries marked the 25th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2019.

Belarusian-Pakistani ties expanded quickly with the establishment of the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in November 2014, with a residence in Islamabad.

Pakistan also has an Embassy in Minsk, Belarus.

On 28-29 May 2015, President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko paid his first official visit to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
