Bangladesh hosting the 12th Bi-Annual Meeting of the  Committee of Senior Officials (CSO)of the Indian Ocean Rim Association

Cox’s Bazar, 28 July 2022 (TDI): Bangladesh is hosting the 12th Bi-Annual Meeting of the  Committee of Senior Officials (CSO) of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA).

The theme is “Harnessing the Opportunities of the Indian Ocean Sustainably for inclusive development.”

The meeting will take place in Cox’s Bazar from 28 July to 29 July 2022.

Forty-six delegates from twenty-one Member States and IORA Secretariat would attend the meeting. Additionally, the second CSO meeting is under the Chairmanship of Bangladesh.

Agenda of the meeting

The meeting will discuss the progress made under the six priority areas of IORA’s agenda.

The priority areas are Maritime safety and security, Trade and investment facilitation,
Fisheries management. Moreover, they also include Disaster risk management, Academic, science technology cooperation, and Tourism and cultural exchange.

Member States will particularly discuss preparations for upcoming events and meetings of IORA’s institutional mechanisms.

Furthermore, the discussion would be on IORA’s engagement with its international partners and special programs.

Consequently, the meeting will also allow Member States to discuss preparations for future IORA events and meetings, considering the impact of COVID-19 during the past two years.

In addition, the meeting will emphasize the need to reflect on the format of the Meetings of CSO-COM and IORA Outlook on the Indo-Pacific.

IORA Development Agency-Dhaka Development Initiative Workshop

IORA Development Agency-Dhaka precedes the 12th Bi-annual CSO Meeting
Development Initiative Workshop (IORDA-DDI), which was held on 27 July.

Similarly, Bangladesh hosted the workshop in Cox’s Bazar in collaboration with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).

Specifically, this is an initiative by Bangladesh to establish an IORA Development Agency to facilitate tangible national or regional level developmental projects to promote regional integration and economic and sustainable development in the region.
