Baku, 3 February 2022 (TDI): Yesterday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, connected with Chris Heaton-Harris. Heaton-Harris is the Minister of State for Europe of the United Kingdom (UK), and both held a phone call. The two discussed diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland.

THE DISCUSSION

The Foreign Minister and State Minister remarked on the positive nature of the existing ties between both countries. They further exchanged thoughts on how to strengthen cooperation in certain industries. The cooperation is within sectors such as economy, education, health, and culture were brought up.

The comprehensive partnership between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland was emphasized as being of utmost priority.

Furthermore, the two parties also spoke about the issue of regional security. Concerning this aspect, both Ministers specifically mentioned implementing the trilateral statements.

Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Russia collaborated to form the trilateral statement with one common objective. The intention was to resolve the political conflict between neighbors Azerbaijan and Armenia. Simultaneously, it also attempted to restore infrastructure and maintain peace within the region.

Additionally, both Ministers acknowledged that the year 2022 would mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and the UK. Thus, they agreed, it was vital for governments of both nations to invest time in organizing collaborative events to commemorate the occasion.

Both sides further noted the significance of increasing high-level exchanges between them, such as this one, in this regard.

Lastly, during the telephonic conversation, the Ministers also touched upon Azerbaijan’s latest political involvement. They discussed its chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Co-operation (OSCE) forum in December 2021.

They also highlighted the importance of implementing priorities of the chairmanship. In addition to this, they also talked about other issues of mutual interest.
