Baku, 3 January 2022 (TDI): The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, held a meeting with the Ambassador of Kuwait, on 29 December. Bayramov received the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Kuwait; Saud Abdulaziz Mohammed al-Shamlan al-Rumi, upon the completion of his mission in Azerbaijan.
During the meeting, Bayramov and al-Rumi exchanged views regarding the current state of the relations between Azerbaijan and Kuwait. Moreover, both parties discussed within the bilateral relations the current level of development and prospects for cooperation.
Both parties also noted the successful development of bilateral relations and the wide range of opportunities for further development of cooperation. Furthermore, that cooperation would extend to the economy, trade, and tourism.
Bayramov stated that the bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Kuwait are successfully developing. According to Bayramov, the countries based their relations on the principles of friendship.
Moreover, he then added the importance of holding regular political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Azerbaijan and Kuwait. Those political consultations would be to further expand their relations.
On the other side, Ambassador Saud Abdulaziz Mohammed al-Shamlan al-Rumi thanked the Minister. According al-Rumi it was for the support provided during his diplomatic mission. Bayramov congratulated the Ambassador’s efforts to develop bilateral relations and wished him success in his future endeavors.
AZERBAIJAN AND KUWAIT RELATIONSÂ
Both countries established diplomatic relations in 1994; under the Protocol between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the State of Kuwait on the establishment of diplomatic relations. Kuwait opened an Embassy in Azerbaijan in 2006.
In the same year, the President of Azerbaijan received the credentials to officially open the diplomatic mission of Kuwait. During the visit of the Azerbaijan President to Kuwait, both countries signed different agreements.
The first agreement was the Agreement on the creation of a Joint Commission on cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan; and the Government of the State of Kuwait: Al-Kuwait, in 2019.
The second one was the Agreement for the promotion and reciprocal protection of investments between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the State of Kuwait.
Then the one on avoidance of double taxation concerning taxes on income and property and prevention of tax evasion between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan. and the Government of the State of Kuwait”.
The next one was the Agreement on Trade agreement between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the State of Kuwait”: Al-Kuwait. The next one was the Agreement on tourism cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Government of the State of Kuwait.
The last agreement was the one on cooperation between Azerbaijani State Telegraf Agency and Kuwaiti News Agency.
ECONOMIC COOPERATION AND THEIR DIFFERENT AGREEMENTSÂ
The two countries have the ten most important agreements that guide their economic cooperation. The first agreement was the one between Azerbaijan and Kuwait “Fund for Arab Economic Development”. That agreement was on credit allowance for the reconstruction of the Alat-Gazimammad highway.
Then the Agreement on the creation of a Joint Commission on cooperation between Azerbaijan and Kuwait. The third one was the Agreement for the promotion and reciprocal protection of investments between Azerbaijan and Kuwait.
Furthermore, the Agreement for the avoidance of double taxation concerning taxes on income and property and prevention of tax evasion between Azerbaijan and Kuwait. Also the Agreement on Trade agreement between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the State of Kuwait.
Then the Agreement on tourism cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the State of Kuwait. Both also signed the Protocol of the first meeting of the Joint Commission for cooperation between Azerbaijan and Kuwait.
The last agreement is the Agreement between Azerbaijan and Kuwait on economic and technical cooperation. Two years later the parties signed the Protocol of the second meeting of the Joint Commission for cooperation between Azerbaijan and Kuwait.
Finally in that same year as the agreement mentioned previously; both countries signed the agreement between Azerbaijan and Kuwait on Mutual Assistance and Cooperation in Customs Matters.
CULTURAL MATTERS AND HUMANITARIAN AID
In 2009, Azerbaijan held in Baku, cultural days of Kuwait. Later in 2010, the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Kuwait organized an event to rememorate the 18th anniversary of the Khojaly tragedy. Later in 2011, Kuwait held Cultural Days of Azerbaijan.
Moreover, in 2014, at the petition of the United Nations Organization and Kuwait; the Minister of Azerbaijan and other countries attended the second International Conference on the support to Syria.
