New York, 26 September 2022 (TDI): The Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov spoke at the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) General Debate.

The ongoing 77th session of UNGA is held in New York. The member states of the United Nations gave their speeches in the debate session of UNGA. The global climate issue, inflation, and Russia Ukraine crisis were at top of the discussion.

Speech of Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan

Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov addressed multiple issues in his speech including the ongoing war with Armenia. He talked about the role of Azerbaijan in the global community. He said, Azerbaijan has been a UN member for 30 years and has proven its dedication to the UN Charter’s values and international law.

Nevertheless, Azerbaijan experienced Armenian aggression and occupation from the very beginning of its UN membership. He said, “In course of aggression Armenia occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan’s territory. 20 thousand Azerbaijanis have been killed; more than 1 million have become refugees and IDPs. Almost 4,000 citizens of Azerbaijan, both civilians and military, still remain missing in connection with the conflict.”

2020 saw Azerbaijan respond to yet another significant military provocation by Armenia by releasing its lands from the occupation in accordance with the UN Charter. In this way, the dispute had been put to an end on 10 November 2020, when the leaders of Azerbaijan, Russia, and Armenia issued a tripartite communiqué.

He further said in his speech that, currently, despite Azerbaijan’s efforts to improve ties with Armenia, the other side frequently provokes an effort to sabotage the normalization process, endangering regional peace and security.

Armenia used yet another military provocation near the clearly defined border between the two republics on the night of September 12–13. Azerbaijan responded to this provocation by taking the necessary steps to remove the danger to its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

According to Foreign Minister, the Armenian side’s statement at the UN General Assembly recently showed once again that Armenia has no interest in the normalization of relations.
