Abu Dhabi, 18 July 2023 (TDI): The first consular consultations between Azerbaijan and United Arab Emirates (UAE) were held on July 18, 2023.
The consular consultations took place between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
During the consultations, the current state and development prospects of consular cooperation between the two countries were reviewed, including the possibilities of signing new bilateral documents in the field and digitizing consular services.

Additionally, exemption from entry visas for persons holding general citizen, diplomatic and special/service passports, from July 8 of this year, and citizens of both countries with general citizen passports will be granted a visa-free regime based on a Memorandum of Understanding.
A detailed exchange of views on the application was made, and more so, the two sides exchanged experience on the latest innovations in the consular fields.
In a similar vein, the two countries emphasized the need to strengthen cooperation in migration, justice and other areas.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties reached an agreement to hold the next meeting of consular consultations in Baku, Azerbaijan in 2024.
Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates can be traced back to September 01, 1992.
It is worth noticing that the two countries have also been holding several diplomatic contacts.
For example on April 20, 2017, Chairman of the Joint Inter-Governmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and United Arab Emirates Shahin Mustafayev paid an official visit to the United Arab Emirates and met his UAE counterpart.
