Melbourne, 10 January 2022 (TDI): In the latest news for Novak Djokovic, the Serbian tennis player, the Federal Court of Australia has repealed the decision to cancel his visa on health grounds.

In addition, the court demanded his release from immigration detention today, within 30 minutes of the judgment.

The court’s findings were declared in an online hearing. According to the findings, the Serbian tennis player was interviewed overnight at Melbourne Airport after his arrival.

Earlier, it was claimed that the tennis star was exempted based on his having tested positive for Covid-19 in December.

Novak Djokovic will be free to leave the Park Hotel in Carlton as per the court decision, where he had been staying for the last four nights under the watch of the Australian Border Force (ABF).

Furthermore, the Australian Government has been ordered to cover all expenses associated with the appeal.

In light of the court’s decision, the Government of Australia has agreed to withdraw the decision to cancel Novak Djokovic’s visa last week.

This means that the visa he came to Australia on, stands. Djokovic will be released from detention and get his passport as well as other personal effects back.

Djokovic flew to Australia with a ‘vaccine exemption’ and arrived in Melbourne for the Australian Open. However, he was eventually refused entry into the country after nine hours at the airport.

His visa was canceled and later he was moved to hotel quarantine. His team launched an appeal on his behalf.

While Djokovic was airborne, Scott Morrison, Australia’s Prime Minister stated that the player will be on the “next plane home” if he is unable to provide “acceptable proof” about his exemption’s legitimacy.

Currently ranked as world No. 1 by the Association of Tennis Professionals, Novak Djokovic is a Serbian professional tennis player.

He has held the position of No. 1 for a record of 355 weeks in total. Moreover, he finished as ATP Year-End No. 1 in a record seven events.
