Islamabad, 20 November 2021 (TDI): Australian Ambassador for Counterterrorism, Roger Noble visited Pakistan. During his visit, he had a meeting with the Director-General of the Federal Investigation Agency (DG FIA) of Pakistan, Dr. Sanaullah Abbasi.

The agenda of the meeting between the two was to discuss international cooperation on transnational crimes. These involve human trafficking, terrorism financing, countering violent terrorism, and people smuggling. The two had a productive dialogue session on the above-mentioned issues.

Australian Ambassador for Counterterrorism

Ambassador Noble was appointed as the Ambassador for Counter-Terrorism in February 2021. He is responsible for leading the international engagement of Australia on counter-terrorism. Roger Noble represents his country at bilateral, regional, and multilateral conferences.

The Ambassador of Australia for counterterrorism is a distinguished military officer. Most recently he served as a Major General. He was also Head of Military Strategic Commitments at Australian Defence Force Headquarters.

Australia-Pakistan Ties

Australia and Pakistan enjoy deep-rooted and strong ties reinforced by extensive people-to-people associations. Diplomatic relations between the two were established after the independence of Pakistan, in 1947. Ever since 1948, Australia has kept a resident mission in Pakistan.

Australia also engages with Pakistan in the spheres of human rights and security cooperation which involves defense and law enforcement training. Apart from that, the two collaborate for economic reform and development too, via an effective program of official level engagement and dialogue.

Cooperation in the Field of Security

In terms of cooperation in the field of security, the two countries collaborate through the Pakistan-Australia Joint Working Group on Border Management and Transnational Crime Cooperation.

It encompasses cooperation in transnational crime, like illegal migration as well as terrorism and terrorist financing. Australia and Pakistan also engage on issues pertaining to regional security, arms control, and non-proliferation.
