Australia set to re-open Embassy in Switzerland

Canberra, 29 October 2021 (TDI): Australian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister for Women, Marise Payne announced today that her country is looking to open an embassy in Bern, in 2022.

Through her Twitter handle, she announced the news. The aim of opening an embassy is to enhance diplomatic ties with Switzerland. She said, Australia will deepen the strategic partnership and cooperation with the European nation.

Both of the nations are celebrating 60 years of diplomatic relations, this year. Marise Payne, in a video message emphasize to strengthen the ties between the two countries.

The Australian Foreign Minister reiterated her country’s intent to strengthen economic, political, strategic, cultural and scientific ties with Switzerland, through reopening of its embassy in Bern. She also asserted to boost business opportunities for people in Australia and Switzerland.

The Swiss Foreign Minister, Ignazio Cassis on his part appreciated the decision. He called the decision of reopening of embassy to be in both nations’ political and economic interests.

Both counterparts expressed gratitude to each other for their efforts to re-establish ties between the countries.
