Peshawar, 11 November 2021 (TDI): The Asian Development Bank delegation met Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister (CM) Mahmood Khan; on Wednesday. In the meeting, they discussed a wide range of issues, like affecting development and the cooperation in various sectors in established and newly formed provinces.
The Director-General of the South Asian Development Bank, Yevgeniy Zhukov, led the team. Additional Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah, Principal Secretary to CM Amjad Ali Khan, and administrative secretaries.
Issues discussed regarding new projects: ADB
The dignitaries discussed various issues regarding the implementation of new projects and reviewed the progress in terms of development projects initiated with the assistance of the Asian Development Bank in the province.
In this event, both parties agreed to complete all the formalities as soon as possible to begin significant work on new projects, especially the Urban Development Project. The UDP is in collaboration with the ADB in five provincial headquarters.
They discussed the issues to promote cooperation and partnership between the provincial government and the ADB in various sectors in the integrated regions. The association has a focus in terms of local economic development and employment opportunities.
Chief Minister Remarks
CM Mahmood Khan termed the ADB as an important and trusted organization that works with development in the provincial government. Khan works in many development programs in various sectors. Those sectors are road infrastructure, hydropower, tourism, and also local government continues with financial support from the Asian Development Bank.
Chief Minister further said the Bus Rapid Transit Project was a living example of a partnership between the provincial government and the ADB. The BRP has become a landmark public transport system at the provincial level, and also national level.
CM added that the provincial government had completed all the preparations for the Cities Improvement Project and that the land acquisition of the 300 Mega Watt Balakot Power Plant would be solved soon.
Accordingly, CM added the provincial government wanted the immediate implementation of various programs under the Provincial Roads Improvement Project. Mahmood Khan (CM) assured full support and resources of the provincial government to implement all ADB projects to the delegates. The delegates will also count on the assistance of the province.
The Director-General, ADB, Yevgeniy Zhukov, described the collaboration between the provincial government and the ADB as an example. Zhukov stated that the performance of the provincial government team on the implementation of development projects was excellent. Zhukov then added that the ADB aims to promote cooperation and development partnership with the provincial government in various spheres.
