Budapest, 28 August 2023 (TDI): Arshad Nadeem, a Pakistani athlete, clinched a silver medal for Pakistan in the Javelin Throw event at the World Athletics Championship on Sunday with his 87.82-meter throw in Hungary’s capital Budapest.
Pakistan has achieved its first-ever medal in the history of the World Athletics Championship.
Neeraj Chopra of India achieved the gold medal by delivering his best throw of 88.17 meters.
In the initial phase of the competition, Arshad Nadeem’s start was challenging, as his first throw covered a distance of only 74.80 meters. Nonetheless, he staged a remarkable recovery on his second try, achieving an impressive distance of 82.81 meters.
In his third throw, the Pakistani athlete achieved a significant breakthrough, reaching 87.82 meters, his best distance of the season.
Although his fifth try fell short of 80 meters, he succeeded in his sixth and final attempt with a throw of 81.86 meters.

During his fourth try, he managed to cover a distance of only 87.12 meters, falling short of his anticipated performance.
Arshad Nadeem’s medal was confirmed as Germany’s Julian Weber couldn’t surpass his own 86.79 mark, with his last throw falling below 80 meters.
Jakub Vadlejch’s foul in the last attempt confirmed Nadeem’s position in the final two contestants.
Earlier Saturday, Nadeem secured a spot in the World Athletics Championship final by achieving his top throw of 86.79 meters. He successfully surpassed the Olympic benchmark of 85.50 meters.
The Prime Minister of Pakistan extended his congratulations to Arshad Nadeem for securing the silver medal on behalf of the country.
While commending Arshad’s performance, the caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan stated, “What a day! What a moment of joy for Pakistan. Arshad Nadeem you’ve made the nation happy and proud for the excellent sportsmanship that won you and the country a silver medal at the World Athletics championship.”
On the other hand, officials of Pakistan, celebrities from the entertainment industry, fellow athletes, and the whole nation extended their congratulations to Arshad Nadeem for his remarkable accomplishment representing Pakistan.
