Beijing, 28 December 2021 (TDI): Argentina’s Ambassador to China, Sabino Vaca Narvaja revealed that Argentine President, Alberto Fernandez plans to visit Beijing in February for the Winter Olympics 2022, despite a diplomatic boycott by a number of countries across the world.

The Ambassador also mentioned that on February 19th of the next year, Argentina and China will celebrate their diplomatic ties of 50 years between both states. This makes the President’s visit to China even more essential on the occasion of such a memorable date.

Ambassador Vaca Narvaja discussed sanitary protocol issues with the Olympic Committee ahead of next year’s Winter Games

The Argentine Foreign Ministry also voiced its support for the Olympics in China. At the start of this month, the United States (US) announced not to send any diplomatic or official representation to the forthcoming Beijing Winter Olympics because of its reservations.

However, the athletes belonging to the US will be participating in the sports event. England (UK), Canada, and Australia being allies of the US, have also backed the action of boycotting the Winter Olympics in support of America.

China responded by advising the US not to politicize the sports event with the decision of boycott as such a move violates the Charter of Olympics and the true spirit of sports.

Sports Minister of Argentina, Matas Lammens has expressed his country’s complete support for the Beijing Winter Olympic Games, which are set to begin on February 4, next year.

During the virtual meeting with the Olympic Committee of Argentina, Ambassador Narvaja discussed the requirements as well as protocols for the admission of Argentine athletes into China amidst the pandemic situation.

The Winter Olympics are held every four years and bring together the best athletes from across the world to compete. The event will make Beijing the only city in the world to hold the Olympic Sports twice.
