Luanda, 14 June 2023 (TDI): Téte António, Foreign Minister of Angola, received Jozef Smets, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium in Angola.
The relationship between Angola and Belgium extends beyond economic cooperation. Belgium has expressed its interest in cooperating with Angola in various sectors.
Both met and agreed to strengthen the bilateral relationship between the two countries and to increase cooperation in various fields such as construction, industries, and renewable energy sector, etc.
The political and diplomatic relations between Angola and Belgium started in 1979, and since then, many agreements have been signed.
The relationship improved with the signing of the Economic, Scientific, Technical, and Cultural Cooperation Agreement on April 26, 1983.
This agreement established a legal body for bilateral cooperation which facilitates political dialogue and cooperation.

In terms of economic cooperation, Belgium is considered one of Angola’s main trading partners in Europe.

Angola-Belgium Relationship
Belgium has invested in various sectors of the Angolan economy. Belgian and Angolan companies have signed several agreements and contracts between them.
The Belgian International Care Service signed a contract in October 2013 with the Angolan company Unitel, marking the first 4G roaming contract signed by an Angolan company.
Also, in October 2013, there have been agreements in the fields of construction, industry, assistance in customs matters, and protection of investments.
Many memorandums of understanding were also signed for the construction of different factories, like processing fish or bottle making, etc.
The two countries have also engaged in political talks, discussed regional and international issues, and praised each other’s contributions to peace and stability.
Belgium has recognized Angola’s role in the ceasefire between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda.
The relationship between Angola and Belgium is based on a strong partnership that is marked by agreements.
Many agreements have been signed with mutual interests in various sectors of cooperation, including politics, economics, energy, transport, and mining.
