Tokyo 25 August 2023 (TDI): Courtesy Call on Japanese Foreign Vice-Minister Takagi Kei, by Assistant Administrator and Director of the Regional Bureau for Africa, United Nations Development Program Ahunna Eziakonwa-Onochie.
In the meeting, both sides discussed new ways to strengthen the relationship between Japan and the United Nations Development Program.
During the bilateral meeting, Japanese Foreign Vice-Minister Takagi emphasized enhancing the relationship and increasing cooperation between Japan and Africa with UNDP to develop together.
Assistant Administrator and Director Eziakonwa appreciated Japan for its support of the United Nations Development Program.
She highlighted that UNDP had been effectively working on the development in crisis scenarios, including regional stability programs and countering extremist activities.
Additionally, She hopes that Japan will be a committed partner for the UNDP for the betterment of the world in the future.
Tokyo International Conference on African Development
Japanese Foreign Vice-Minister Takagi stressed that Japan keeps its partnership with the UNDP at a high level and wishes to strengthen cooperation in Africa with the Tokyo International Conference on African Development.

As the Tokyo International Conference on African Development is celebrating its 30th anniversary, Vice-Minister Takagi thanked Director Eziakonwa for the well-established contributions by the UNDP as a co-organizer in the conference.
During the Courtesy Call on Japanese Foreign Vice-Minister, He expressed to continue working with the UNDP in the follow-up process on the Tokyo International Conference on African Development.
Director Eziakonwa responded that Japan’s sincere wish to develop Africa with dignity and through a people-oriented approach are the core principles of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development.
Both sides agreed to cooperate to evolve the Tokyo International Conference on African Development process by reinforcing the cooperation between Japan and UNDP and committing to promote the process.
