Islamabad, 4 October 2021 (TDI): On Monday, the United States Charge d’ Affaires to Pakistan Angela P. Aggeler organized her first meeting with Chairperson of the National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) Nilofar Bakhtiar in Islamabad. The luminaries expressed mutual commitment towards working for women & girls’ rights in Pakistan.
The United States Charge d’ Affaires expressed her pleasure over meeting with Nilofar Bakhtiar, Chairperson of the National Commission on the Status of Women, and appreciated the organization’s efforts to mitigate violence and discrimination against women in Pakistan. During the meeting, Aggeler committed to further promoting NCSW’s priorities and discussed ways to resolve the issues particularly faced by Pakistani women and girls.
The National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) was established under the NCSW Act, 2012 as an administratively autonomous body. The commission is fundamentally concerned with reviewing policies, laws, and monitoring the implementation of these laws with the aim of protecting and empowering the women of Pakistan. Not only does the commission grant equality to women but also showcases various indicators, including women’s financial autonomy, their household decision-making power, political participation, freedom of movement, access to education, and experience of domestic violence based on the data derived from various sources.
