Ambassador Tirmizi represents Pakistan at Abu Dhabi Dialogue

Islamabad, 12 February 2024 (TDI): Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, emphasized the significance of the Abu Dhabi Dialogue (ADD) in addressing critical issues concerning labour mobility and women’s employment during the 7th Ministerial Consultation held in Abu Dhabi.

In his address, Ambassador Tirmizi underscored the unique nature of the Abu Dhabi Dialogue, bringing together 17 member states from the Gulf and Asia with a primary focus on addressing shared concerns related to labour mobility.

He highlighted the platform’s pivotal role in establishing principles for the protection of migrant workers’ rights, underscoring the joint responsibility of both labour-sending and labour-receiving nations.

However, recognizing the transformative impact of technology on labour markets, Ambassador Tirmizi emphasized the need for innovative approaches to meet evolving skills demands.

He stressed the importance of diversifying skill sets and fostering partnerships to facilitate skills mobility, ensuring alignment with changing industry needs.

The Ambassador commended the Abu Dhabi Dialogue for its efforts in promoting women’s participation in green jobs, noting their potential to fill critical skills gaps in sectors such as renewable energy.

He emphasized the importance of leveraging women’s talent and expertise to drive sustainable development and economic growth.

Climate Change and Migration Challenges

Highlighting the interconnectedness of migration, climate change, and health, Ambassador Tirmizi emphasized the need for comprehensive approaches to address these challenges.

He reiterated the importance of raising recruitment standards, enhancing skills recognition, and leveraging technology to facilitate labour dispute resolution, while advocating for strengthened international cooperation.

Furthermore, expressing gratitude on behalf of the Government of Pakistan, Ambassador Tirmizi extended appreciation to the Abu Dhabi Dialogue Secretariat and advisory committee for their support during Pakistan’s chairmanship.

He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to fostering meaningful dialogue and cooperation to address complex labour and migration issues.

The 7th Ministerial Consultation of the Abu Dhabi Dialogue served as a platform for constructive dialogue and collaboration among member states to address pressing challenges related to labour mobility and women’s employment.

Ambassador Faisal Niaz Tirmizi reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to advancing the objectives of the Abu Dhabi Dialogue and promoting inclusive and sustainable development in the region.
