Islamabad, 31 January 2022 (TDI): Mohammed Motahar Alashabi, the Ambassador of Yemen, called on Professor Dr Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, the Coordinator-General COMSTECH.

The meeting was held at the COMSTECH secretariat. During the meeting, the two officials deliberated upon avenues of mutual interest and collaboration. In addition, it was acquiesced upon that COMSTECH will launch the “COMSTECH-CCoE Yemen Programme.”

The programme will be in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Yemen in Islamabad. The objective will be the capacity building of Yemeni scientists.

Ambassador Mohammed Motahar Alashabi on his part welcomed the proposal of Coordinator General COMSTECH to initiate the abovementioned capacity building programme for Yemeni nationals.

“COMSTECH-CCoE Yemen Programme”

The Yemeni Ambassador also offered full support to this initiative on behalf of the Embassy of the Republic of Yemen. COMSTECH-CCoE Yemen Programme comprises 50 fellowships for Yemeni nationals.

These fellowships will be offered by member institutions of the COMSTECH Consortium of Excellence (CCoE). They are the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) at the University of Karachi, as well as The University of Lahore, Lahore, and Health Services Academy (HSA), Islamabad.

The University of Lahore and Health Services Academy Islamabad each will offer 15 fellowships. Whereas the ICCBS has offered 15-20 fellowships. Yemeni nationals having Masters, PhD and Postdoc degrees or presently enrolled at these levels will be eligible to apply for the fellowships.

The goal of this programme is to deliver high-quality and state-of-the-art training to Yemeni nationals so that they can serve their nation. In addition, it is to equip them so that they can prepare and train the young generation for the future.
