Pak-UAE Relations

After its independence in 1971, Pakistan was the first to recognize the United Arab Emirates. The span of 50 years of relations has been cordial and friendly.

United Arab Emirates provides a vast trading market for Pakistan, and the investments and imports from the UAE help facilitate sectors in Pakistan, including the Petroleum industry in particular.

Additionally, Pakistan’s food supply exports significantly benefit the UAE. In 2020, United Arab Emirates had a large net trade with Pakistan in the exports of Mineral Products ($3.33B), Metals ($754M), and Plastics and Rubbers ($337M).

In May 2022, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif held a meeting with a team of economic experts from the United Arab Emirates. The Minister asserted that “Pakistan attaches the highest priority to its brotherly relations with the UAE and to strengthen its relations.”

Apart from this, the assistance provided by the UAE government during the 2011 floods in Pakistan proved very helpful in combating the calamities that monsoon floods brought.

UAE also fully facilitated the government of Pakistan in its efforts to bring peace, stability, and prosperity to Afghanistan after the Taliban’s takeover. During COVID-19 Pandemic, both states ensured their full support to each other to tackle the crisis.
