Pakistan-Turkiye Ties

The relationship between the two countries stems from history and is shaped by common objectives. Besides, Pakistan and Turkiye have maintained long-standing military ties with each other.

In recent years, the collaboration between the two navies has exponentially increased. Along these lines, Pakistan Navy signed a contract for the acquisition of four MILGEM-class ships from Turkiye in July 2018.

The MILGEM deal is the largest single military export deal of Turkiye worth $1.5 billion. The first metal plate of the first of the four MILGEM Ada class corvette was cut by the then Pakistan Navy Chief Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi and President Erdogan.

In addition, nearly 1,500 Pakistani military officers have received training in Turkiye over the last decade. Moreover, the two partners are already collaborating on drone production.

Furthermore, in the same vein, both Turkiye and Pakistan have grown closer in terms of military cooperation because of the security situation around their neighboring countries.

It is also pertinent to note here, that the Navies of the two countries also routinely participate in joint maritime drills in the Mediterranean as well as the Arabian Sea region.
