Islamabad, 15 August 2022 (TDI): Mohammed Omer Ahmed Al Marhoon, the Ambassador of Oman in Pakistan called on the Chief of the Naval Staff of Pakistan Navy, Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi.
The meeting took place in the Naval Headquarters in Islamabad. During the meeting, the two sides discussed issues pertaining to mutual interest and bilateral collaboration between the navies of Pakistan and Oman.
Ambassador Mohammed Omer Ahmed Al Marhoon on his part lauded the role of the Pakistan Navy to ensure peace and stability in the maritime region.
The Navies of Pakistan and Oman collaborate on a routine basis. Along these lines, Commander Royal Navy of Oman Rear Admiral Saif bin Nasser bin Mohsen Al-Rahbi met Pakistan’s Naval Chief in January this year.
The two counterparts discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral defense ties. Moreover, the Pakistan Navy Ships also routinely visit the ports in Oman. Aside from that, the two navies also jointly conduct maritime exercises.
The geographic closeness makes Oman and Pakistan a natural alliance, and the leadership, government, and people of Pakistan have high regard for Oman’s leader and the affable people of Oman.
Oman and Pakistan have excellent close ties that are friendly, brotherly, cordial, and profound. Pakistan has an Embassy in Muscat while Oman has a Consulate General in Karachi and an Embassy in Islamabad.
Previously a part of Oman, Gwadar was transferred to Pakistan on September 8, 1958. On July 1, 1977, it became fully subdivided into Balochistan and a part of the Gwadar District. Inhabitants of Pakistani descent are over 85,000 in Oman.
In terms of economic cooperation between Oman and Pakistan, their bilateral commerce has increased worthwhile in recent years.
Moreover, trade between Oman and Pakistan is encouraged by the Pakistan-Oman Joint Investment Company. In addition, the two allies also work together militarily, conducting joint drills and buying weapons.
