Rawalpindi, 17 October 2022 (TDI): Per Albert Ilsaas, the Ambassador of Norway called on General Qamar Javed Bajwa, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of Pakistan.
The meeting took place at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, today. During the meeting, the two sides deliberated upon topics pertaining to the mutual interest as well as the regional security situation.
Both sides also expressed a willingness to strengthen bilateral relations in a myriad of domains for mutual benefit. In addition, the Norwegian Ambassador expressed his grief about the harm caused by floods in Pakistan.
Pakistan has been severely impacted by the flash floods during this year’s monsoon season. So much so that a third of the country has become inundated with millions displaced and a major chunk of crops destroyed.
Aside from that, the Ambassador of Norway also praised the efforts undertaken by Pakistan to promote regional stability.
Along these lines, he also promised to uphold his rule so as to deepen diplomatic collaboration with Pakistan at all levels.
Pakistan and Norway enjoy strong and cordial bilateral ties. Norway has provided development aid to Pakistan many times. Norwegian aid has been provided with a focus on governance and education.
It must be noted that, on a smaller scale, Norway has helped to document as well as preserve Pakistan’s cultural legacy. Also, Pakistanis make up one of Norway’s largest immigrant communities.
Norway maintains an Embassy in Islamabad as well as an honorary consulate in Lahore, while Pakistan maintains an Embassy in Oslo.
