New York, 5 January 2022 (TDI): A significant accomplishment and a solid experience background merit a nomination for appointment on the first day of the year.
Mukwashi is more than a very active leader in several international and humanitarian fields; she is also a spiritual leader and one of the most well-known women’s advocates in Africa.
Over an extended period of time, she has developed formidable leadership skills. Which have been honed through hard work and achievement with the United Nations, several governments, and non-governmental organizations.
“As confirmed by the host government of Lesotho, on January 1, UN Secretary-general António Guterres appointed the newly appointed UN Resident Coordinator in Lesotho, Amanda Khozi Mukwashi, from Zambia.”
During the past 25 years, Mukawashi has worked to alleviate poverty, fight injustice, and inequity at the international, national, intergovernmental, and subnational levels, and has assumed leadership roles at the United Nations, the United Nations Development Program, and the World Health Organization.
“Although she served as a United Nations volunteer, she also served as the Chief of Volunteer Knowledge and Innovation and the Chief of Advisory Services of the United Nations Volunteer Program in Germany. She has also contributed to supporting the country’s gender, population, and development strategies through her work with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Zambia.”
Formerly, she was the Chief Executive Officer of Christian Aid, a non-governmental organization that works on the development and humanitarian issues in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, and the Middle East.
Her previous experience includes senior positions with both Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO International) and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) in Zambia.
Along with her position as an author and CEO, Mukwashi has additionally served as a trustee for the Demos Think Tank in the United Kingdom. In addition, she serves as the Thursday in Black Ambassador for the World Council of Churches.
Her experience includes serving, among other things, as a trustee for the British International Development Network (BOND), as the President of Akina Mama WA Afrika, a pan-African feminist organization, and as a trustee for the United Kingdom Disaster Emergency Committee.
The University of Warwick in the United Kingdom granted her a master’s degree in international economic law. Additionally, she possesses a bachelor’s degree in law from the University of Zambia.
