Baku, 11 August 2022 (TDI): Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad of Algeria, a special representative of Algerian President, Ramtane Lamamra, and Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister, Jeyhun Bayramov, held consultations during a meeting before doing a joint press conference.

A one-on-one meeting was held first between the Foreign Ministers of Algeria and Azerbaijan, and later a joint meeting comprising delegations from both sides including government officials and other diplomats was also held.

The Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan welcomed the distinguished guest and conveyed his congratulations to his Algerian counterpart on the 60th anniversary of Algeria’s independence day.

Foreign Minister Bayramov stressed that there is wide potential for further development of bilateral relations between the two countries. Bayramov also referred to the importance of political dialogue and high-level diplomatic exchanges between Algeria and Azerbaijan.

Algerian Foreign Minister also noted the historic visit of former Algerian President Bensalah to Azerbaijan. He referred to the Algerian President’s numerous activities during the visit in 2019 including meeting with the President of Azerbaijan.

Foreign Minister Bayramov also highlighted the detailed information about Armenia’s aggression against Azerbaijan for 30 years.

Algerian Foreign Minister’s Stance

In response, Algerian Foreign Minister Lamamra praised the warm reception from his Azeri counterpart. The Minister also noted the significance of maintaining the current political dialogue and regular bilateral contact between the two countries.

The issues such as an expansion of dialogue and development of energy and economic cooperation were stressed by Minister Lamamra. He further highlighted the importance of creating friendship groups between the communities of both countries.

The Foreign Minister of Algeria informed about political processes in the Middle East and League of the Arab States and the African Union. The Foreign Minister also informed his Azeri counterpart that Algeria unequivocally supports and respects the sovereignty and integrity of Azerbaijan.

Furthermore, the two sides also discussed issues of cooperation at multilateral international and regional forums including within the UN. Both sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
