Ethiopia, 12 August 2021 (TDI): The Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention announced the first international conference on Public Health in Africa (CPHIA). It will be held virtually from 14-16 December 2021. The conference was postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic earlier this year however, this time it is planned to be held virtually. The conference provides a platform for researchers, policymakers, and others to share their scientific findings and to collaborate across the continent.
COVID-19 had detrimental impacts on the African continent, causing almost seven million infections and almost 175000 deaths. It looks that Africa can hardly say goodbye to the pandemic in the near future. The pandemic has also severely impacted social and economic aspects of Africa. It is a barrier to human development.
The conference aims to review lessons learned from COVID-19 and to build a more strong health system for such future crises.
The past 18 months were full of hardship and difficulties especially for more vulnerable segments of society like women and children, however, lessons of building a healthy and equitable future for all Africans, have been learned.
