Afghanistan’s First Int’l Agri Conference Commences

Kabul (TDI): The first international conference titled “Green Revolution for Afghanistan’s Self-Sufficiency” has been launched at Afghanistan’s National Agriculture Sciences and Technology University (ANASTU) in Kandahar, an Afghan official website stated on Monday.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock, the event is bringing together agricultural experts, policymakers, and industry professionals from Canada, Nigeria, Thailand, India, Pakistan, Qatar, Bangladesh, Egypt, Turkey, and Iran.

Participants in the three-day conference will present academic papers and propose solutions to address challenges and promote development in Afghanistan’s agricultural sector.

The conference features the participation of Kandahar elders, members of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s Cabinet, and domestic experts. The Acting Ministers and IEA Spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid has delivered their point of views to the participants in their addresses to the conference.

Zabihullah Mujahid in his address emphasized the potential for a successful agricultural revolution with the guidance of experts, stressing the need for progressive changes in the traditional methods of agriculture.

In his address, Acting Minister of Higher Education Sheikh-ul-Hadith Mawlawi Nida Mohammad Nadeem discussed the historical challenges faced by Afghanistan’s agricultural sector due to past conflicts and ongoing efforts to revitalize this essential domain.

Dr. Lutfullah Khairkhwa, the Deputy Minister of Education at the Ministry of Higher Education, highlighted the broader significance of agriculture beyond its immediate scope.

Mullah Attaullah Omari, the Acting Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock, is expected to deliver a keynote speech.

This event serves as a platform for dialogue and exchange between domestic and international specialists, aimed at identifying effective strategies for agricultural development and achieving self-sufficiency in Afghanistan.

This conference was organized by Kabul University, and held at Anastu University, Kandahar. Within three days around 85 research articles will be presented by both domestic and foreign lecturers.
