Afghan FM addressed international demands

Islamabad, 13 November 2021 (TDI): The Afghan interim Foreign Minister Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaqi joined scholars and students at the Institute of Strategic Studies in Islamabad, Pakistan. They met on 12 November. Muttaqi was there to present Afghanistan’s stance on the demands imposed by the International community.

ATTENDANTS OF TROIKA

After yesterday’s Troika Plus meeting with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and with representatives from the Russian Federation, China, and the US. Muttaqi and his delegation left the conference after the parties discussed the future of Afghanistan’s Government and economy.

OBJECTIVE OF TROIKA

The objective of the meeting was to prompt Muttaqi to take action to fulfill the commitments Afghanistan made to the global community so they could gain recognition as a state. These responsibilities consist of an inclusive government, security of women’s and human rights. To ensure that Afghani soil is not utilized for terrorist activities is another responsibility.

ROAD TO AN INCLUSIVE GOVERNMENT

According to Qureshi, the objective of the Troika Plus meetings was about the desire to see a peaceful, and prosperous Afghanistan. Today, at the Institute of Strategic Studies, Muttaqi publicly declared Afghanistan’s perspective on the subject. Muttaqi argued that if an inclusive government meant to include all nations, then all of them have representation in the cabinet.

This refers to the representation of all regions. Then there is a representation of all from Panjshir to Badakhshan and Kandahar. Thus, he evaded the fact that there is not equal, diverse representation in the Government of Afghanistan. Not in the way that the global community seems to infer.

Additionally, he commented that official recognition from nations as opposed to having a relationship with them was different. Though the international community has not recognized the Taliban, it has restored its relations with some countries. The U.S. continues to freeze $9.5 billion of the Afghan central bank, refusing access until the Taliban meets its demands. Afghanistan must consider meeting these needs or offering a negotiation.

From Muttaqi’s address, it seems they are pursuing the latter. Until this matter is solved, sustainable economic development in Afghanistan stays at a standstill.
