China’s fight against Covid-19

Beijing, 9 March 2022 (TDI): Chinese Minister of Science and Technology, Wang Zhigang, has stated that technology and science have played a vital role in combating the Covid-19.

To clarify, he expressed these views via a video link along the sidelines of the fifth session of the 13th NPC in Beijing. He gave an interview on March 8.

Along these lines, Wang Zhigang highlighted that the government of China has made progress in development and research to control the pandemic. Earlier, the Chinese government granted market approval for three inactivated vaccines on a conditional basis.

However, in 2022, the government approved the recombinant protein vaccine. Similarly, Wang Zhigang pointed out the progress of the Chinese government in other technical areas.

Currently, Chinese mRNA and a DNA vaccine are in phase-3 of clinical trials. As a result, the minister highlighted that China has also granted conditional market approval for neutralizing antibody drugs.

In terms of development and medicine research, three small-molecule drugs are put forward for phase-3 clinical trials whereas other medicines are at developmental stages. In addition to that, the Chinese government has also improved the efficiency of the COVID-19 nucleic acid test.

However, the nucleic acid test requires thirty minutes to produce results. Meanwhile, researchers are undergoing new modes of vaccination which include inhalation and nasal spray. In this context, the minister reiterated that China has formulated technological and scientific ties with more than 160 countries.

Collaboration in Innovation and Science

Moreover, the country has established network ties with approximately 200 international organizations. Subsequently, China has collaborated with 17 countries which include Malaysia, the UK, the US, and South Africa.

Currently, China is focusing development and research of drugs, vaccines, and testing reagents. Approximately, China has also signed twenty-one scientific and inter-governmental agreements to advance the field of research and innovation.

Above all, China has focused on the development drive since last year. Thereupon, China has ranked 12th at the Global Innovation Index 2021. Accordingly, the Chinese Minister of Science and technology remarked that businesses have played a crucial role while leading technological advancement.
