Beijing, 24 December 2021 (TDI): The Foreign Ministry of China gave a statement on the US’ signing of the so-called Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act.
China’s Stance on the US Act
The US signed the so-called Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act into law on 23rd December. The statement of the Chinese Foreign Ministry proclaims that the Act “maliciously denigrates the human rights situation in China’s Xinjiang.” It disregards the facts and truth along with seriously violating international law and basic norms governing international relations.
In addition, the Act grossly interferes in the internal affairs of China and China firmly rejects and deplores it. The statement further enunciates that the “so-called allegations of “forced labor” and “genocide” in Xinjiang are nothing but vicious lies concocted by anti-China forces.”
The economic development and the social stability of Xinjiang are recognized by the whole world. Moreover, the fact that residents of all ethnic groups there enjoy fulfilling and happy lives is witnessed by all.
The US keeps using Xinjiang-related issues to make trouble and generate rumors. The statement claimed that essentially the US is “engaging in political manipulation and economic coercion.”
Furthermore, the so-called Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act seeks to undermine the prosperity and stability of Xinjiang and contain the development of China under the pretext of human rights.
Remarks of Spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Zhao Lijian
The Spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Zhao Lijian stated that it is preposterous for a country like the US to accuse and smear China, what with its deplorable track record of human rights issues. He highlighted that the US has serious issues pertaining to forced labor and human trafficking.
Approximately 100,000 people have been trafficked into the US for forced labor yearly, over the past five years. Zhao Lijian further pointed out that the US should use labels such as “forced labor” and “genocide” for itself as it has a history of committing crimes against humanity. The case of Native Americans constituting de facto genocide is an apt example.
The Spokesperson underscored that issues related to Xinjiang are not human rights issues. They are in fact about countering separatism and violent terrorism. He conveyed that China sternly warns the US against crafting conspiracies.
Moreover, such acts completely transgress commercial ethics and market principles and will disrupt international trade order, undermine the stability of global industrial and supply chains, and disrupt and hurt the US’ own credibility and interests.
Zhao Lijian stressed that Xinjiang-related issues are purely China’s internal affairs. The Chinese government and Chinese people are resolutely resolved in protecting national sovereignty, security, and development interests.
He said that the US should immediately fix the erroneous mistake, and cease using Xinjiang-related issues to meddle in China’s internal affairs, disseminate lies, and contain China’s development.
