The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Yemen, Ahmed A. Bin Mubarak reached New York to represent Yemen at UNGA session

New York, 20 September 2021 (TDI): The Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs of Yemen, Ahmed A. Bin Mubarak reached New York to represent Yemen in the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

During his visit, the Minister will partake in international events along with meeting his counterparts. His key agenda will be to deliberate upon efforts to restore peace and stability in his country along with enlisting the help of the international community.

UNGA 76 or the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly commenced on September 2021. It is the main organ of the United Nations that represents policymaking.

This year’s theme of the session revolves around sustainable rebuilding, respecting the rights of people, rejuvenating the United Nations (UN), acknowledging the needs of the planet, and constructing resilience through recovery from COVID-19.

Yemen has been experiencing unrest for many years. So much so that it has been proclaimed as the worst humanitarian crisis of the world because of prevalent conflicts in the country.

Prevalent Situation in Yemen

The aggression perpetrated by the Houthis has targeted the civilian population of the country. In addition to that, it has led to the destruction of civilian properties and buildings, most notably the schools and hospitals.

The war in the country has resulted in a human catastrophe that has torn the society apart along with triggering “waves of mass displacement, repression and enforced disappearance.”

The agenda of the Yemeni Foreign Minister is to urge the international community to pressurize the Houthi coup leaders as well as their sponsors to ‘end bloodshed.’ 

Aside from that, Ahmed A. Bin Mubarak will also discuss the dire situation of the country in the wake of the onslaught of the Covid-19 pandemic and other predominant issues affecting the economic growth of the country.
