RIYADH (TDI): Saudi Arabia’s King Salman has undergone medical tests following a diagnosis of a lung infection, the Royal Court said.

The health update of King Salman shared by the Royal Court said that the king would undergo further medical examinations as recommended by royal clinics to treat the infection.

King Salman, who has been on the throne since 2015, is often at the center of speculation regarding his health.

Saudi King Undergoes Medical Tests

His son, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS), 38, has effectively served as the day-to-day ruler since being named heir in 2017.

The king’s health has been closely monitored, with regular updates rarely released.

In May, the Royal Court disclosed that King Salman had been treated with antibiotics after being admitted to hospital for tests, though he was later said to have recovered.

He had also been hospitalized in March 2022 for “successful medical tests” and to have a pacemaker battery replaced.

The previous year, in 2021, he was hospitalized for a colonoscopy and other medical assessments, staying for just over a week.

Despite these hospital visits, the Royal Court has consistently downplayed concerns over his health and dismissed rumors about the possibility of him abdicating in favor of his son.
