Swat Incident: All Members of Diplomatic Convoy Are Safe

-

Islamabad (TDI): The Foreign Office (FO) of Pakistan on Sunday confirmed that all members of the diplomatic corps have returned safely to Islamabad after their trip to Malam Jabba and Swat.

In a statement issued after the incident, the foreign office spokesperson said that on their way back, a vehicle of the advance scout police vehicle was hit by an IED which resulted in a casualty of the police detail.

“Our sympathies are with the families of the shaheed (martyred) policeman and three injured in the incident,” it said.

“We honour our law enforcement authorities that remain steadfast in the face of terrorists,” it added. Such acts will not deter Pakistan from its commitment towards the fight against terrorism.

Earlier, a policeman was martyred while three others were injured when their vehicle, part of a convoy escorting dignitaries from 12 countries, was hit by an IED blast placed on a roadside on Malam Jabba Road in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Swat district.

According to Swat Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Muhammad Ali Khan, delegations from Indonesia, Portugal, Kazakhstan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Turkmenistan, Vietnam, Iran, Russia, and Tajikistan were a part of the convoy that was targetted.
