CDA, Pak-EPA Joins Hand to Tackle Environmental Challenges

Islamabad, 6 August 2024(TDI): The Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Pak EPA) have joined hands to address critical environmental concerns in Islamabad.

Two high-level meetings, chaired by the Chairman CDA and attended by DG Pak EPA, DC Islamabad, and their teams, focused on key issues plaguing the city.

The meetings emphasized the need to clear Rawal Dam of pollution caused by solid waste and factory effluents, which pose a significant threat to the city’s water supply. The officials discussed strategies to address this issue and ensure the dam’s water quality is restored.

Another critical issue addressed was the single-use plastic ban in ICT limits. The officials explored ways to effectively enforce this ban and promote sustainable alternatives to reduce plastic waste. This move aims to minimize the harmful impact of plastic on the environment and public health.

The issue of illegal construction and the demolishing of illegal units in Zone 3 of Islamabad was also tackled. The meetings aimed to find solutions to maintain the city’s master plan and prevent further encroachment. This will help preserve the city’s natural beauty and prevent unauthorized development.

In addition to these key issues, the meetings also touched on other pressing environmental concerns. These included encroachment on green spaces and natural habitats, inadequate waste management systems, air and water pollution, and climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies.
