5th Consultative Meeting of Heads of Central Asian States

Dushanbe, 15 September 2023 (TDI): Tajikistan hosted the 5th Consultative Meeting of Heads of Central Asian States on September 14, in Dushanbe, chaired by the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon.

The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the President of Kazakhstan, Kasim-Jomart Tokayev, the President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadir Japarov, the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, and the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev participated in the summit.

The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General – Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), Kakha Imnadze also participated in the summit.

 

In specification to the agenda, the further expansion of multilateral cooperation in the region including the development of political dialogue, activation of cultural and humanitarian exchange, and countering modern threats and dangers in the field of security were discussed.

Moreover, the promotion of joint programs and projects in the fields of trade, investments, transport, energy, agriculture, and ecology was also discussed during the meeting by the Heads of Central Asian States.

As a result of the meeting, several agreements were signed between the Central Asian States including, an agreement between Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan on the general directions of youth policy.

The agreement on strengthening the interdependence of road transport in Central Asia, Regulation on the National Coordinating Council for the Consultative Meetings of the Heads of the Central Asian States was also signed.

The document concerning the road map to support health and well-being in Central Asia in 2022-2025 was also adopted.

Besides that, the document on the joint statement on the results of the 5th Consultative Meeting of the Heads of Central Asian States was also adopted.

Meeting of Foreign Ministers of Central Asian States

On the eve of the 5th Consultative Meeting of the Heads of Central Asian States, the Foreign Minister of Central Asian States also held a meeting in Dushanbe on September 13.

During the meeting, the Foreign Ministers reviewed in detail the drafts of the Joint Statement of the Heads of State following the 5th Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia.

The Dushanbe Statement of the Heads of the Founding States of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS) was also reviewed.

Furthermore, the Foreign Ministers focused on the key areas of multilateral cooperation, including current regional and international aspects.

Along with that, the Foreign Ministers discussed the important issues inscribed in the agenda of the Summit.
