Shanghai, 8 November 2021 (TDI): Fourth China International Import Expo (CIIE) successfully kicked off last week, with President Xi Jinping’s inaugural address. The CIIE is the first national-level import-themed professional trade fair in the world. The Expo is held in the National Exhibition and Convention Center, Shanghai.
China International Import Expo
Chinese President Xi Jinping declared in 2017, that China will hold CIIE annually. He made the announcement at the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. The first CIIE was in 2018 with the intent to open up the domestic markets to foreign companies and increase domestic consumption.

Organizers of the Expo
The Expo is jointly organized by the Ministry of Commerce of China and the Shanghai Municipal Government. It partners with United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, World Trade Organization, and United Nations Industrial Development Organization.
Embodiment of China’s opening-up
CIIE is the embodiment of China’s opening up, economic globalization, and trade liberalization. Over the years it has become professional, well organized, and digital. The platform enables countries and regions to strengthen economic cooperation and trade.
Global Economy
Presently the global economy is struggling because of COVID-19. The fourth CIIE will enable the world to recover economically. It shows China’s resolve to promote sustainable world economic development and globalization.

China is the second-largest economy and the second-largest importer as well as consumer in the world. The Chinese market has vast potential for the growth of consumption and import.
Participants of the Expo
Government officials, business communities, exhibitors, and professional purchasers across the world are participating in this year’s Expo. It has attracted 3,000 offline exhibitors from 127 countries and regions.
They will be taking part in the Business Exhibition. 58 countries and three international organizations are participating in the Online Country Exhibition, particularly those involved in the Belt and Road Initiative.
Business Exhibition
The Business Exhibition has numerous exhibition areas. It includes Intelligent Industry & Information Technology, Food, and Agricultural Products, Consumer Goods, and Automobile. Furthermore, it will be displaying Medical Equipment & Healthcare Products as well. Thirteen themed sections are to display the latest products and innovations related to environmental protection and low-carbon energy.

China’s Accession to World Trade Organization
2021 also marks the 20th anniversary of China’s accession to the World Trade Organization. The Hongqiao International Economic Forum will hold a themed forum at the Expo, to mark the occasion. The theme is “Mutual Benefit and Win-Win Solution for a Shared Future”. It will present the achievements of China.
