Hanoi, 24 May 2022 (TDI): The 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, which took place from May 12 to 23, 2022, came to an end on Monday with a spectacular closing ceremony at the Vietnam Indoor Asian Games Stadium in Hanoi.
The 2021 Southeast Asian Games is a regional multi-sport event that took place this year in Hanoi, Vietnam from May 12 to 23, 2022.
The event was originally set for November 21 to December 2, 2021, but was rescheduled due to the COVID-19 outbreak in Vietnam.
The tournament includes 40 sports, the majority of which are seen at the Olympic Games. Vietnam is hosting the Southeast Asian Games for the second time. Vietnam previously hosted the event in 2003.
Because of the escalating COVID-19 pandemic, the Vietnamese government structured strict conditions. Such as, All officials entering Vietnam must have a negative PR-based-COVID-19 test in less than 72 hours of their departure because of the escalating COVID-19 pandemic. Participants will be examined again using quick testing within 24 hours of arrival and their particular event.
If a player tests positive for COVID-19, they will be quarantined at their assigned facility or, sent to a hospital. If an athlete tests positive before their event, the NOC may replace them with another athlete. The athlete will be unable to compete if a positive case is discovered while the event is still going on.
Southeast Asian Games Federation expects all 11 members to compete in the 2021 SEA Games.
The opening ceremony
On May 12, 2022, at 20:00, the Mnh National Stadium hosted the Games’ opening ceremony (local time). Trn Ly Ly, renowned artist, and head Vietnamese Department of Performing Arts, was the ceremony’s main director. The parade of nations included around 31 athletes from each country as a protection against COVID-19.
Different technologies were employed during the ceremony. Which includes 3D mapping, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), extended reality (ER), and mixed reality (MR).
Major performances involved over 1,000 actors, with each smaller presentation involving over 200 actors and actresses. The stage has 44 projectors and the stadium pitch has been transformed into a display area to demonstrate projection technology.
Moreover, the first performance, “Friendly Vietnam,” conveys the notion that Vietnam is a country with a distinct culture and a welcoming attitude toward visitors from all around the world.
Closing Ceremony
The tournament flag was handed over to Cambodia, the next host of the 32nd Southeast Asian Games.
Lastly, The 31st Southeast Asian Games included 40 sports and 526 events.
