Samarkand, 12 November 2022 (TDI): Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Vladimir Norov named the next year, 2023, the “Year of the Rise of Turkic Civilization” within the Organization of Turkic States (OTS).

The necessary step has been taken on Friday during the 9th Summit of the Heads of the OTS Member States in Samarkand.

The 9th Organization of Turkic States Summit was held in Samarkand. Heads of Turkic states attended the ceremony.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev welcomed the attendees and delivered a speech, highlighting the subjects to be discussed, the challenges facing the Organization of Turkic States, and the opportunities for further increasing cooperation.

Kubanychbek Omuraliev, the organization’s new Secretary General, expressed thanks for the trust placed in him and promised to work hard to strengthen cooperation among member countries.

A group photo was also taken. Following that, several documents, including the Samarkand Declaration, were signed. An awards presentation followed the meeting.

The Supreme Order of the Turkic World was bestowed upon Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Turkmenistan’s Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of the Milli Gengesh, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

Chingiz Aitmatov, a world-renowned Kyrgyz writer, was posthumously given the Alisher Navoi Award for contributing to the Turkic world’s unity and progress. Sadyr Japarov, President of Kyrgyzstan, received the honor.

Declaration on Global Zero Waste signed

The “Declaration on Global Commitment to Zero Waste for the World, Our Common Home” was prepared at the suggestion of the Republic of Turkiye.

It was signed by Mehriban Aliyeva, First Lady of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ziroatkhon Mirziyoyeva, First Lady of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and the wife of Hungarian Prime Minister Aniko Levai.
