13th Consultative Assembly of Parliamentarians CAP-ICC Convened

Islamabad (TDI): The 13th Consultative Assembly of Parliamentarians on International Criminal Court and Rule of Law (CAP-ICC), organized by Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA) was commenced with the inaugural session delivered by the Speaker of National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq

The Speaker of NA addressed and dilated upon the need to consider global issues, such as humanitarian and climate crises and mounting effects on human security worldwide.

According to NA Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, lawmakers must protect the rights and welfare of their citizens despite several obstacles, not just enact laws.

According to him, every Pakistani lawmaker represents over one million people in their districts, many of whom struggle with severe problems like stunting, lack of access to safe drinking water, and poor sanitation.

He stated that the forum’s primary objective was to devise procedures for PGA members to follow up on their pledges made to their respective national legislatures, guaranteeing coordinated efforts to provide aid to people in need.

He noted that although violence and war were making people’s suffering worse, humanitarian problems were increasing without showing any signs of slowing down.

“All member delegates have a shared responsibility to make the most of this forum to formulate successful strategies,” he continued.

“Improving the lives of our constituents is our responsibility. To put an end to violence and bloodshed like the one occurring in Gaza, we must speak out against it,” the” NA speaker added.

The NA Speaker also added, “In addition, the unresolved issue of Kashmir, where mass graves and forced disappearances are serious issues amid blatant violations of UN resolutions.”

13th Consultative Assembly of Parliamentarians

He added that Despite being one of the most minor contributors to global warming and climate change, the nation and region’s growing susceptibility to the phenomenon led to tremendous destruction following the floods of 2022.

In welcome remarks, Mónica Adame, the secretary-general of Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA), greeted all delegates and commended the National Assembly for their excellent planning and gracious hospitality.

She thanked the PGA National Chapter Chairperson Sherry Rehman, NA Speaker, PGA President Syed Naveed Qamar, lawmakers, and the forum’s delegates for their support.

According to Mónica Adame, the PGA was the world’s greatest non-governmental network of cross-border lawmakers when it was established forty-five years ago.

She noted that the PGA organized lawmakers to support gender equality, human rights, democracy, the rule of law, human security, and climate justice.

“We aim to demonstrate the trust between lawmakers and pertinent stakeholders,” Monica added.

She stated, “In addition to maintaining bilateral discussion at all levels and preventing impunity for violent and widespread human rights breaches worldwide, lawmakers play a critical role in protecting the rights of their people.”

“While the international criminal court was the only established global court to listen to the cases about serious risk to humanity, the CAP-ICC forum serves as a forum to exchange best practices, challenges, experiences, and lessons learned among the members,” she stated.

In her introductory remarks, Senator Sherry Rehman, President of the PGA Pakistan National Group, greeted the elected officials and delegates from around the globe attending the CAP-ICC as part of the PGA Conference in Pakistan.

Senator Rehman underlined the need for teamwork in advancing global peace and the rule of law.

According to Senator Sherry Rehman, Pakistan has always been at the forefront of promoting global peace and human rights.

According to her, Pakistan was dedicated to advancing justice, human rights, and the rule of law, and lawmakers played a crucial role in advancing global justice.

In his special remarks, Syed Naveed Qamar, President of Parliamentarians for Universal Action and National Assembly (MNA) member, emphasized the significance of restoring Pakistan’s reputation as a dynamic country that promotes democracy, justice, and universal rights.

Furthermore, during the 13th Consultative Assembly of Parliamentarians Senator Sherry claimed the PGA meeting was for lawmakers and activists supporting democracy and human rights.
