Islamabad (TDI): Pakistan has dispatched a curated collection of ancient artefacts to Beijing for inclusion in an exhibition alongside the SCO Summit.
The exhibition, titled “Collections from Museums of Shanghai Cooperation Organization Member States”, will launch at the National Museum of China to coincide with the SCO Council of Heads of State meeting on August 31, 2025.
Under the thematic banner “Respecting Diverse Civilizations, Pursuing Common Development,” the showcase has invited national museums of SCO member states to send representative ancient relics and artefacts.
Alongside contributions from Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Iran, and others, Pakistan’s display spans the country’s entire historical spectrum, from the Neolithic to Mehrgarh to the Islamic era.

Pakistan is contributing ten artefacts, which include:
- Stunning terracotta female figurine dating back to 3,000-3,500 BCE from the Neolithic period
- Painted globular pot, dating back to 2,800-2,700 BCE
- Steatite Indus Seal with a humped bull and inscription, dating back to 5,000 BCE
- Terracotta horse figurine, dating back to 1,600-1,800 BCE
- Jain ritual tank adorned with birds and lamps, dating back to 600-200 BCE
- Stone panel depicting Apalala Jataka, dating back to 3-4 Century BCE
- Astrolabe used by sailors in 19th Century CE
“Under the theme of ‘Respecting Diverse Civilizations, Pursuing Common Development’, the exhibition will invite national museums of SCO members to send representative objects to attend the exhibition. By doing so, the exhibition can display the diversity of culture, friendship and cooperation of the SCO family,” said a letter inviting the Department of Archaeology and Museums (DOAM) of Pakistan.
The annual SCO Summit is set to take place in Tianjin on August 31st and September 1st, in which Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will also take part.
China’s chairmanship of the SCO this year has brought an extensive lineup of cultural exchange events. Assuming a leadership role, it has made these events memorable.
