Zardari Stresses Pakistan’s Commitment to Stronger Ties with Russia

Islamabad (TDI): President Asif Ali Zardari has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further expand bilateral collaboration with Russia in the areas of trade, investment, technology, and people-to-people exchanges.

Speaking at a ceremony marking the 80th Anniversary of Victory of Russia in the Great Patriotic War, President Asif Ali Zardari underlined the growing momentum in Pakistan-Russia ties and expressed hope that recent high-level interactions between the two nations have laid a solid foundation for enhanced engagement and greater understanding.

“I feel optimistic that the bonds of friendship between Pakistan and Russia will continue to grow stronger,” the President said, adding that “both countries have huge potential to further strengthen collaboration in multiple fields such as trade, investment, technology, and people-to-people contacts.”

He extended warm congratulations to President Vladimir Putin, the Russian government and public on the occasion, stating that the Victory showed the strength and resilience of the Russian people, as well as their firm commitment to peace and prosperity.

He further said that people from the Indus Valley—modern-day Pakistan—had also played a major role in defeating Nazism as part of the British Army.

Recalling his 2011 trip to Moscow, the President acknowledged President Putin’s efforts to advance Pakistan-Russia ties. He described Russia as a “major global power” and underlined its role in advancing regional peace and stability, particularly its role in de-escalating tensions between Pakistan and India.

President Zardari also reaffirmed the commitment to building bridges of understanding and collaboration between the two countries, as well as emphasizing the need to work jointly for a better future for the region and beyond.
