Doha (TDI): President Asif Ali Zardari met with China’s Vice President Han Zheng on Wednesday during the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha, where both leaders reaffirmed their strong commitment to deepening the all-weather strategic cooperative partnership between their nations.
The meeting underscored the mutual trust, respect, and shared vision for regional peace and prosperity that has long defined Pakistan-China relations.
The two leaders expressed their resolve to continue close cooperation on regional and international issues of mutual interest. Recalling his recent visit to China, President Zardari emphasized that Pakistan and China are “iron brothers” and steadfast partners, with their strategic relationship remaining a cornerstone of Pakistan’s foreign policy.
In his remarks, President Zardari extended gratitude to China for its unwavering support during Pakistan’s most challenging times, highlighting the continued success of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He noted that the second phase of CPEC was now focused on high-quality development, further enhancing bilateral ties and contributing to regional stability.

Vice President Han Zheng, on behalf of President Xi Jinping, conveyed warm greetings to President Zardari and reaffirmed China’s commitment to the enduring friendship between the two countries. He also expressed admiration for Pakistan’s efforts in combating terrorism and promoting peace in the region.
In particular, Vice President Han emphasized China’s continued support for Pakistan’s economic development, particularly through the second phase of CPEC. This phase will focus on key sectors such as transport and infrastructure, information technology, agriculture, and vocational training, which are expected to drive growth and enhance socio-economic stability in Pakistan.

The meeting was also attended by First Lady Bibi Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Qatar, further reflecting the strong political and diplomatic ties between the two nations. The bilateral discussion highlighted the ongoing strategic partnership that continues to grow in both scope and depth, with a shared vision for peace and prosperity in the region.
