Brasilia (TDI): Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed optimism about deepening China-Brazil ties as he landed in Brazil on Sunday for the 19th G20 Leaders’ Summit and a state visit at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
In a written statement upon his arrival, President Xi highlighted the importance of enhancing bilateral relations, aligning the development strategies of the two nations, and addressing shared international and regional issues.
Extending warm greetings to the Brazilian government and its people, Xi noted his familiarity with the country, having visited four times over the past three decades.
Witnessing Brazil’s progress and transformation, he remarked on the special connection he feels with the South American nation.
“China and Brazil are reliable partners and like-minded friends. Despite being separated by oceans, the two nations resonate with each other, demonstrating mutual respect and shared aspirations,” Xi said.
Over recent years, the two countries have significantly strengthened political trust, reaped benefits through collaborative efforts, and witnessed growth in cultural exchanges, he said.

Beijing and Brasilia have also joined forces to represent the voice of the Global South on international platforms, contributing to peace and development.
50th Anniversary of China-Brazil Diplomatic Relations
This year marks the 50th anniversary of China-Brazil diplomatic relations, which Xi described as standing at a historic juncture.
He expressed confidence that his visit would bolster strategic trust and cooperation across diverse sectors, ushering in a new era of bilateral relations that he termed a “golden 50 years.”
Xi’s visit to Brazil follows his participation in the 31st APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Lima, Peru.

Speaking on the G20 Summit, Xi emphasized the importance of multilateralism and called for discussions on fostering an inclusive, equal, and cooperative global order.
The Chinese president also underscored the need for economic globalization to be universally beneficial, stating his readiness to work with global leaders to make the G20 platform more impactful for international economic cooperation.
