Lima (TDI): Chinese President Xi Jinping has announced that China will host the 2026 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, reaffirming its commitment to fostering regional cooperation and unity.
Speaking at the 31st APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Lima, Peru, Xi emphasized the need for deeper collaboration among Asia-Pacific nations amidst growing global challenges.
He highlighted the importance of building an open, dynamic, resilient, and peaceful Asia-Pacific community, reflecting this year’s theme of “Empower, Include, Grow”.
Hosting the APEC summit for the third time, China aims to solidify regional solidarity and advance an Asia-Pacific community with a shared future.
This milestone comes at a critical juncture, underscoring Beijing’s advocacy for openness and multilateral cooperation while opposing protectionist policies.

China’s first turn as APEC host in 2001 marked its integration into the global economic landscape with its entry into the World Trade Organization.
In 2014, China hosted again, cementing its role as a global economic leader. The 2026 summit aims to further unite the region and promote balanced, sustainable, and inclusive growth.
A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson confirmed that the proposal to host the summit was well-received by APEC members and endorsed during the Lima meeting, according to Xinhua.

“We look forward to working with all parties to expand Asia-Pacific cooperation for the benefit of the region’s people,” Xi stated, reiterating Beijing’s vision for regional connectivity and inclusive progress.
