Kazan (TDI): Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed China’s commitment to being a sincere friend and close partner to Egypt during a meeting with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi on the sidelines of the 16th BRICS Summit.
This marks Egypt’s inaugural participation as a full member in the summit.
Highlighting the significance of this year as the China-Egypt Year of Partnership and the tenth anniversary of their comprehensive strategic partnership, Xi reaffirmed China’s steadfast support for Egypt in safeguarding its sovereignty, security, and developmental interests.
Xi urged both nations to continue bolstering mutual support, deepen practical cooperation, and work towards a high-quality implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative.
He emphasized the need to strengthen cultural exchanges and advance bilateral relations to build a China-Egypt community with a shared future in the new era.
Additionally, Xi expressed China’s willingness to collaborate with Egypt to enhance the long-term development of BRICS cooperation, amplify the influence of the Global South, and protect the interests of developing countries.

In response, President Sisi congratulated China on the 75th anniversary of its founding and acknowledged the fruitful results of the comprehensive strategic partnership over the past decade.
He reaffirmed Egypt’s stance as a sincere friend of China and other African nations, expressing gratitude for China’s support.
Egypt’s Commitment to One-China Principle
Sisi also reiterated Egypt’s commitment to the one-China principle and its understanding of the significance of the Taiwan issue to China.
He conveyed Egypt’s intent to align its development strategies with the Belt and Road Initiative and strengthen practical cooperation across various sectors.
Both leaders discussed the prevailing situation in the Middle East, with Xi expressing concern over the ongoing turmoil in the region.

He underscored that the Palestinian issue remains central to achieving stability and called for the full implementation of UN Security Council resolutions to end the violence in Gaza.
Xi commended Egypt’s efforts to promote a ceasefire and expressed China’s readiness to work closely with Egypt to address the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and alleviate regional tensions.
