Xi Lauds China-Russia Ties as Global Model

Tianjin (TDI): Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday described China’s relationship with Russia as a model of major-country diplomacy, built on lasting friendship, strategic coordination, and mutually beneficial cooperation.

Xi made the remarks during talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is in China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit 2025, as well as commemorations marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

Xi said China is committed to strengthening high-level exchanges with Moscow, supporting each other’s development, and coordinating positions on issues involving their core interests.

He emphasized that Beijing and Moscow should use major projects to guide future cooperation, deepen integration of economic interests, and enhance resilience in bilateral ties.

It also reflects their determination to safeguard the outcomes of the war and to preserve what he called a “correct historical perspective.”

Xi also referred to his recently launched Global Governance Initiative, explaining that the proposal aims to unite like-minded countries in defending the UN Charter and building a fairer, more balanced system of international governance.
