Beijing (TDI): Chinese President Xi Jinping has urged Russia and China to work together to promote what he described as a “more just and reasonable” global governance system, while also calling for an immediate end to hostilities in the Middle East.

Speaking during a meeting in Beijing with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Xi said the international situation is currently “fluid and turbulent,” warning that unilateralism and hegemonic politics are re-emerging. However, he stressed that peace, development, and cooperation remain the dominant global trends and the shared aspiration of the international community.

Xi called for a “strategic and long-term perspective” in China–Russia relations, saying both countries should strengthen comprehensive strategic coordination and deepen cooperation across political, economic, and other sectors. He said the partnership between Beijing and Moscow has developed through increased mutual trust and expanding collaboration, and contributes to international fairness and stability.

Addressing the Middle East situation, Xi said an immediate and complete cessation of hostilities is urgently needed, warning that continued fighting risks pushing the region further toward instability. He added that returning to negotiations is essential and that escalation at this stage would only worsen global disruptions, including energy supply chains and industrial stability.

He described the current situation in the Middle East as being at a “critical juncture between war and peace,” emphasizing that restraint and diplomacy are necessary to prevent further deterioration.

The remarks came as Putin arrived in China for a two-day visit marking the 25th anniversary of the China–Russia Treaty of Good-Neighbourliness and Friendly Cooperation. The treaty, first signed in 2001, was also renewed during the visit.
