Beijing (TDI): Three Chinese citizens wrongfully detained in the United States have returned safely to China, following sustained efforts by the Chinese government.
Addressing a question about reports of reciprocal prisoner releases between China and the US, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning underscored that Beijing remains committed to protecting its citizens.
“This demonstrates that China never abandons its people, and the motherland always stands behind them,” she said.
Mao criticized the US for its “politically motivated suppression” of Chinese nationals and vowed to take all necessary steps to safeguard their lawful rights and interests.

Among those returned to China was a fugitive who had fled to the US years ago.
“No one can evade justice forever, and no place can remain a haven for crime indefinitely,” Mao said, reaffirming China’s determination to repatriate fugitives and recover illicit assets.
Travel Advisory Updated After Chinese Citizens Release
The US, meanwhile, updated its travel advisory for China following the release of three American nationals by Beijing.
The advisory was downgraded from Level 3 “reconsider travel” to Level 2 “exercise increased caution.”
It also removed the “D” designation, which had indicated a risk of wrongful detention for US citizens.

Mao welcomed the change, describing it as conducive to facilitating exchanges between the people of both nations.
“We oppose actions that create fear and hope the US will take further steps to promote cultural and people-to-people exchanges,” she added.
